David Arase is honorary professor at the Asia Global Institute at The University of Hong Kong and resident professor of international politics at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. His three most recent books are: Routledge Handbook on Africa-Asia Relations (Routledge, 2017), China's Rise and East Asian Order (Palgrave, 2016), and The US-Japan alliance: balancing soft and hard power in East Asia (Nissan Institute/Routledge, 2010), which was awarded the Ohira Memorial Foundation Special Prize in 2011. His current research focus is on China’s rise, the growing Sino-US strategic rivalry, and the impact on the Indo-Pacific regional order.
