Xue Gong is a research fellow in the China Program of the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. She holds a PhD in International Political Economy from NTU. Her research interests include China’s economic diplomacy, the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Southeast Asia economic relations.

China recognizes that poor governance and lack of transparency of Belt and Road Initiative projects could undermine its strategic interests in Southeast Asia.
