Wang Yang is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities of the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). She received her PhD in communications and new media from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a master’s degree in mass communication from Peking University in China. She conducts research on the social impact of new media technologies on families, organizations and diasporic communities. Her PhD dissertation investigated ICT domestication by Chinese “study mothers” (陪读妈妈) in Singapore, with a special focus on digital asymmetries and emotional labors involved in their quotidian ICT use. During her doctoral studies, she was project manager for the interdisciplinary “Deliberative Governance: Developing a Digital Platform” project. Wang is currently working on the “Tackling Disruption: Industry Transformations and Workforce Resilience” project funded by the Singapore Social Science Research Council (SSRC).
China should explore more holistic solutions as it seeks to manage the social impact of ubiquitous technological innovation.
