Dr Layla McCay is a British medical doctor and global public health and health systems specialist. She is director of policy for the UK’s NHS Confederation. She is also director of the Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health, an international think tank, which publishes the Journal of Urban Design and Mental Health, of which she is managing editor. Dr McCay has worked for the British government’s Department of Health, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and several international NGOs, and was named the UK‘s top young professional woman for her impact on health. She has a bachelor’s degree and medical degree from the University of Glasgow and a master’s degree in health policy, planning and financing from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has been an adjunct professor of international health at Georgetown University. Dr McCay has expertise in intersectoral collaboration to advance global public health and health service innovation. She is based in London.
Post-Covid-19 resilient cities will be those that take advantage of the built environment to prevent mental ill health.
